Pens, ATI, Dunkin’ Donuts, First Niagara Help Raise More Than $100,000 For “Support Our Heroes”

March 18, 2013 – The Mario Lemieux Foundation announced today that the Pittsburgh Penguins and partners ATI, Dunkin’ Donuts and First Niagara raised more than $100,000 for the “Support Our Heroes” campaign, benefitting military veterans programs. One beneficiary of the program was the Mario Lemieux Foundation’s Austin’s Military Playroom Project, which is currently working with the US Navy to build an Austin’s Playroom at the new Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton.

The total raised was $102,301.42

Initiatives included an auction of the Penguins’ camouflage warm-up jerseys; a Penguins’ branded “Support Our Heroes” employee cup promotion; and donations made by fans at Dunkin’ Donuts and First Niagara branches throughout western Pennsylvania.

Proceeds will benefit Operation Troop Appreciation, the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation’s Mighty Penguins Veterans Sled Hockey program and the Mario Lemieux Foundation’s Austin’s Military Playroom at the new Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton.
