Mario Lemieux Announces Mario Match

PITTSBURGH — November 30, 2021 — The Mario Lemieux Foundation announced today that Mario and Nathalie Lemieux will once again personally match all holiday donations to the Mario Lemieux Foundation, dollar for dollar, up to $500,000, until December 31, through the Mario Match.  When you give, Mario will match!

“The Foundation was created to help those in need,” said Mario Lemieux. “With your generous gift to the Foundation through the Mario Match, we will continue to help our friends and neighbors. “

After Mario’s battle with Hodgkin’s disease in 1993, he and his wife, Nathalie, realized the importance of establishing a patient-care based foundation to give others support and hope.  Twenty-seven years later, the Mario Lemieux Foundation has gifted over $31 million to cancer research and patient care, as well as helped millions of patients and families get through some of the most challenging periods of their lives.

Donations to the Lemieux Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization, benefit the Mario Lemieux Center for Blood Cancers and the Mario Lemieux Immunotherapy Center both at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, Mario Lemieux Lymphoma Center for Children and Young Adults at UPMC Children’s Hospital, as well as Mario Lemieux Innovation and Research Fund at Allegheny Health Network’s Cardiovascular Institute. Additionally, donations will support Austin’s Playrooms, impacting millions of children and families by easing the burden of difficult and extended hospital stays for sick children and their siblings.
